well, it happened. after 2 years of maybes and date changes ben has been deployed. he was originally scheduled to leave on monday morning at 6:00 am, but it became clear very quickly that his company would not be organized and ready to go at that point. we stood around and waited until 8am when it was decided that we had to say goodbye. it was horrible. as horrible as one might suspect. i had grand plans to go home, put on sweatpants and have a delicious breakfast of ice cream. however, by the time i got home i had gotten a message from ben saying their flight had been delayed until 2pm and would i come back and pick him up. of course the answer was yes. ben decided that what he wanted to do more than anything was to take a nap and then get lunch at taco bell. and by 1:30 we were back on fort lewis working through another round of goodbyes. this time however I didn't even make it back to the house before he had called me and said his flight was delayed again. this time until Tuesday morning. we had a relaxing evening of bubble teas and dinner in seattle with his sister and fiance. tuesday morning was really the worst of it though. it started to feel like it was for real this time. ben was released for an hour for breakfast which consisted of a quick trip to burger king. after breakfast and a quick roll call it became pretty clear that he was really getting on the bus and leaving. watching him get on the bus was the most difficult thing i've done.
the last 2 days have been difficult. i've been trying to keep busy and not dwell on everything, but it's been hard.
